How long a first aid certificate lasts
The law sets no expiry period for a first aid certificate. Regulation 3 requires a valid certificate, but it does not say the certificate lapses after a set number of years, so any provider who tells you it expires after three years is describing a convention rather than a legal rule.
Three years has become the accepted cycle in most industries, largely because issuing bodies and employers work to it. The real driver is the body that issued the certificate and the employer's own risk assessment, and both can set a shorter or longer interval.
